Tim’s Retaining Walls & Rock Walls Built by Gold Leaf Landscaping
The Brief
In this particular job the customer Tim was looking to terrace the site and plant dry garden beds in the three terrace steps that were created by the rock walls. Important to note is that this area was used as a dump site prior to Gold Leaf Landscaping’s transformation of the property.
Built with Ecology in mind
The rock retaining walls were created using lift-able and manageable local basalt to create a stone wall that stands about a half metre high. Where we could we used the rocks that we found on the property itself keeping our method sustainable and costs to a minimum for Tim. When we can’t find the rocks on the land we bring it locally from Mullumbimby. The rocks we have access to are perfect for building effective rock walls for any purpose we need. Its heavy rock that is not brittle and as you can see it looks beautiful.
The Design
We followed a landscape design line that we created ourselves to create the desired shape and flow according to our plan of the garden. We had a few drainage issues so we added drainage to the walls so that they will last for 100’s of years to come. The garden bed was built up as the area was in a gully on the property. This allows for better drainage of the water as well. The result was the dry gardens we see now in what was essentially a wet area.
The Result
The resulting garden is now a fully established garden with the plantings taking to their new environment as if they were there originally. Considering that the client wanted the area tidied up he was very happy with the result and it is a far cry from the dump site that the area was used for before Gold Leaf Landscaping was chartered to create it’s solution.
